The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Limited hosted the 2015 Boardcrazy Australian Raceboard Titles and Oceanic Championships on behalf of Windsurfing Queensland from 24th to 26th January in Manly, Brisbane.[more]

Day 1 saw great conditions with 10-15 knot winds. 3 races were run. Race 1 kicked off about 1pm with a fair bit of nevous energy on the start line. The fleet all seemed a bit early to the start line but it saw a clean start for everyone. The usual suspects were contesting the top places. Race 2 was run in slightly lighter conditions and saw some more of the lightweights challenging for the top spots. Race 3 saw the wind fill back in and planing conditions for everyone off the wind with some fast finishes.

Day 2 – Well we joked how it was going to be light winds for the nationals. For some it was no joke today with 1st place sailors sliding to 10th in races and 10th place sailors upgrading to 1st. So it was a challenging day and other words were also used to describe the conditions by sailors too. Still that’s racing and today was still arguably better than mowing the lawn, just!!

Day 3 – planing conditions for most of the day saw fast racing and another change in sailors’ placing. A great day to finish the nationals with beers on before the presentation. Congratulations to all the Queensland.

“Well done Leo and to all the competitors, there were some great battles out there and I am sure after three days of course racing you are all feeling it. Great work and a big thank you to the organisers, in particular Brendan Moore, Cameron Whitford and Tony Matta for all of the background work required to organise and secure such an event. It was an outstanding success you should be very proud of.

“Also thanks to Board Crazy and RQYS for their sponsorship and support in providing the facilities, resources and volunteers to make the event world class. The families and sailors who have developed the relationship with RQYS also deserve a big thanks because they have made events like this possible and I can see a lot of benefits in the coming years with the development programs they have underway. Some of them were in the support boats all weekend, which is something they do week in week out to help develop the relationship with the club. Well done to all and I look forward to more events like this in the future. ” “scotf”
