The world championship in Liepaja, Latvia, got off to a good start on day one – with 3 races completed and a championship validated. [more]

Two good races and one race completed in very marginal conditions, were run in winds varying from 4 to 10 knots. As ever consistency won the day, with ex world champion Patrik Pollak (SVK 1) having the edge over current champion Max Wojcik (POL 7) – 2 races won by Patrik to Max’s 1. However a quick run through the top 8 racers in today’s ranking and it is still anyone’s championship.

This year the regatta will have a series of maximum 15, shorter, races and, with a good forecast tomorrow, it may be possible to run a further 4 races . . . the ranking table could look very different tomorrow evening!
