COVID-19 border restrictions meant competitors couldn’t attend the event from interstate so the event morphed into the Raceboard and Techno Challenge with 28 competitors taking part from New South Wales.
The new plan is for the Nationals to be a 3-day event around the weekend of the 17th and 18th April.
The Challenge comprised of 2 days of course racing, followed by an hilarious relay race using 2 Gemini tandem boards on day 3, and a marathon on day 4. The course racing was won by Nathan Clift, with Jimmy Levy coming second ahead of Richie Reynolds on a countback. Results are here.
The tandem racing was a new experience for most, sailing a windsurfer with someone else was a great exercise in team-building. And the racing was really close as well. Thanks to Chief Fun Officers John Doolan and Lyndon Bauer who provided the idea and the equipment.
Day 4 was the Marathon, a tour all over Brisbane Water, taken out by local lad John Doolan in one hour, with Matt Quick taking out the half marathon.
Thanks to Saratoga Sailing Club for their usual warm welcome and their flexibility in allowing this event to go ahead.
