One hundred sailors from four continents pre-entered for this World Championship and registration has been open today for late entries. For several days now many participants have been arriving early and testing the waters of Blanes. [more]Despite little wind in advance of the championship, we have seen how keen the sailors are to train and we expect a busy week, with storm included!

The championship organized by the Club Vela Blanes, has the support of the Spanish secretary of the class, Luis Camacho, himself a keen participant in the world circuit, and unconditional support throughout from the International Raceboard class, which has brought this event to Blanes.

In this championship the Polish Wojcik Maksynilian is the sailor who will defend the title of World Champion gained last year. He has some serious rivals in this competition: against the current runner-up, Juha Blinnikka, Finnish champion; German Moritz Martin, runner-up in 2009 who has come to Blanes very prepared and ready for anything, the Portuguese champion Pedro Cortes Moura or the Spanish Olympian Ivan Pastor.

Also strong women’s participation, with Australian Joanna Sterling; European champion last year, Czech Martina Hruba, second in the world in 2009, Maria Antonia Dominguez, mother of Olympic Blanca Manchon and world champion several times.

And look out for some of the best-known Spanish sailors in this championship: Paco Manchon, Toni Colomar, Alex Buchu, Victor Fernandez, Ignasi Segado, Juan José de Palacio, Fernando Lamadrid, among others.

Everyone is looking forward to the Opening Ceremony this evening (Monday). The Skippers meeting is scheduled for 10.30 in the morning with first possible start at 12.00 noon.
