El Puerto de Santa Maria, October 4th – The more than 130 windsurfers from 24 countries gathered in Cadiz, Spain to compete in the Raceboard Worlds were faced with difficult wind conditions on the first day of racing. [more]The first race of the day started with the wind blowing from the East (Levante) at around 20 knots, but had dropped to between 6/7 knots as the last sailors were finishing. After several hours waiting on shore, the sailors started the second race just after five o’clock with the wind blowing from the south at around 10 knots.
Today’s wind conditions favoured the traditional raceboards over the new RS:Xs and the leaderboard is dominated by the sailors in the Youth and Master’s categories, with Carmen VAZ (ESP) (who finished 2nd in the Raceboard Europeans in 93, 95 and 96) leading the women’s fleet. Patrik Pollak (SVK) is the overnight leader in the men’s fleet, but is tied on points with Max Wojcik (POL) and the current Spanish Formula Windsurfing champion, Fernando MARTINEZ DEL CERRO (ESP). Curro MANCHON (ESP) is just one point behind and three points ahead of the current Mistral World Champion and winner of the RS:X Cadiz Race last weekend, Nicolas HUGUET (FRA).
The forecast for tomorrow is for a steady westerly wind between 12 and 15 knots.
