Three races heralded the start of the 2014 “ERGO HESTIA” Raceboard European Championships taking place in Sopot, Poland.  World Champion, Max Wojcik, racing on home turf, started as he means to continue with two firsts.  [more]However, former World Champion, Slovakian Patrik Pollak, is putting up a good fight in second place, starting the day with a third, improving with a second in race two then beating Max over the line to take the bullet in race three.  Another local, Pawel Gardasiewicz, is third overall, just three points behind.

It is clear that the locals won’t have it all their way: first Grandmaster is Juha Blinnikka from Finland, first Veteran is German Bernd Neumann and we even have SuperVeteran Francisco Manchon from Spain.

A small ladies fleet but, even so, five countries are represented.  Antonia Dominguez from Spain, leads with two bullets and a second place with Aussie Joanna Sterling, snapping at her heels with two second places and a bullet.  Finnish Aleksandra Blinnikka is currently in third place overall.

After a great first day’s racing, competitors are looking forward to the Opening Ceremony and then racing continues until 21 June.
